Bodrum Castle!

Sitting atop an ancient water jar...

Sarcophagus sitters!

They made this piece of history into a bench...

It was a long hike up a ton of stairs, but the view from the top of Bodrum castle was worth it!

We could see tons of boats and miles of ocean!

Lots of steps... still in good shape after hundreds of years..

Peeking over the edge...

We loved climbing in the castle... if you look closely, you can see pieces of marble pillaged from the Mausoleum!

A view of Bodrum harbor!

These canons kept the fortress safe!
This was an anchor from one of the ancient ships in the harbor!

We found a throne room!

Stairs to the torture room - 23 steps down -- the sign over this door said 'A place where God does not exist'
We took in a little more history at Bodrum castle!! Danni was hoping that it would be a princess castle, so she was a little disappointed when she discovered that it was another 'old place' filled with 'old stuff'   We were all surprised at how much access tourists have to the castle -- we were able to climb all over the castle ... and only a few rooms were blocked off.  I especially liked checking out the torture room!  It was pretty spooky because it was down a whole bunch of stairs and it was quiet and dark down there!!  I bet castle kids behaved themselves -- no one would have wanted to have a time out in that spot!
